The Day After Vault is designed so the company does not have routine access to decrypt vault contents. Customers must preserve their encryption recovery file and passkey to maintain access.

Your Login Password Is Not Your Encryption Passkey

Your account login password lets you sign in. Your encryption passkey protects your vault contents. These are separate. The encryption passkey is used in your browser to create a long encryption key that protects your files before they are uploaded. The Day After Vault cannot simply reset this passkey for you. During setup, you will download a recovery key file. Store it safely. If you lose both your passkey and recovery file, your encrypted vault contents may not be recoverable.

A Legacy That Changed Everything
Two years ago, I lost my best friend to cancer. In the midst of grief, his wife shared something remarkable with me; he had quietly prepared digital files, each carefully written for a different family member and friend.

These weren’t just documents. They were lifelines. The documents he left contained every critical detail—data, passwords, processes, and insights that only he knew. The folder he left his wife mapped their financial accounts, final wishes, and a step-by-step plan on what to do after his departure (who to call, how to handle the funeral arrangements, how to access important assets, etc.). It was a final act of love that gave her strength, clarity, and direction during the hardest moment of her life.

I had known many others who went through similar loss without that kind of preparation; families searching in despair for bank information, insurance policies, passwords, etc., and often never finding them. How it Works

Create Your Personal Secure Vault

Your vault is your private, encrypted space where you can securely store:

Instructions for after your passing (e.g., funeral preferences, business handovers, etc).
Legal documents (will, power of attorney, insurance, etc).
Financial data (bank accounts, cryptocurrency access, assets, etc).
Passwords and digital account details.
Private messages, letters, or videos for loved ones. This is your chance to say what matters most—when it matters most.

All data is stored using end-to-end encryption.

Add Beneficiaries

Decide who gets what after you're gone. You can:

Assign specific documents or messages to named individuals up to 10 beneficiaries for Plus plan - "active email and phone numbers required".
Add or remove beneficiaries at any time.
Group assets by categories (e.g., financial, emotional, digital).
Add notes or personal explanations for more meaningful delivery.
Set release rules and waiting period
You remain in complete control, and your beneficiaries only see what you've assigned to each of them after you pass away—nothing more.

Assign Trusted Executors

Choose a person (or more than one) you trust to "initiate the transfer" process after your passing. Executors will:

Confirm your passing through a secure verification process (e.g., death certificate upload).
Trigger the vault release to beneficiaries.
Never see the contents themselves unless granted specific access.

You can also add backup executors in case your primary contact is unavailable.

Passing-Verification Process

To protect your information, we use a multi-step verification process before unlocking your vault:

Trusted executor confirms your passing.
Upload of official proof (e.g., death certificate, obituary link, court notice).
System checks document completeness.
Vault team or verification provider reviews.
Other executors/trusted contacts are notified.
If no dispute occurs, release workflow proceeds.
All actions are logged.

🔽 How secure is my information?

Your information is encrypted on your device before it is ever stored, ensuring that only you can access it while your account is active. We use strong, industry-standard encryption and a zero-knowledge system, meaning no one—including our company—can view your data.
At The day after Vault, we developed a unique architecture that encrypts whatever you add BEFORE it leaves your device, with an algorithm generated by a password that you will have to create after setting-up your account, and will be used to encrypt and decrypt your files. "This encryption password is different than your account's login password."
Your information is stored securely on Google Firebase servers in the USA.

🔽 Who can access my vault?

Only you can access your vault while you're alive. After your passing, only the trusted executor(s) you had appointed can unlock your vault. Beneficiaries will only receive access to the specific documents or messages assigned to them—nothing more.

🔽 Can I update or delete my vault?

Yes. You can log in at any time to add, update, or remove documents, messages, executors, or beneficiaries. You can also permanently delete your entire vault if you change your mind—your data belongs to you. That flexibility - along with the total privacy - is what distinguish The day after Vault from competitors.

🔽How can I add my Documents?

You can add documents by uploading your documents from your computer.

🔽How does it work if I pass away?

When your departure is confirmed and validated through a trusted process - such as a death certificate upload and notification from any of your assigned executor(s) - your vault will be unlocked according to your wishes. Only the people you selected as beneficiaries will gain access to the specific items you have designated for them. We ensure this transition is handled securely and respectfully.

🔽 What happens if I don’t assign an Executor?

Without a verified executor, we CANNOT release your information.
For your vault to be unlocked, there must be a trusted contact to provide legal confirmation of your passing. That is the role of the Executor. We strongly recommend assigning at least one executor (preferably two) to ensure your wishes are carried out completely.

🔽 What happens to my stored data if I cancel my account?

When we receive your request for cancellation, your data will be totally erased from the server.
Please note: If you decide to re-instate your account at a later date, you will have to re-upload everything again.

🔽 Why would I choose your service over other "storage" systems or leaving my instructions in a will?

1. Because we have a process to deliver what you chose to pass-on, when you chose to pass it on, to whomever you chose to pass it on to confidentially.
2. Because whatever your wish to pass to your loved ones will be private, confidential, and totally secure.
3. Because you can change and/or update your data anytime, without going through a lengthy and/or costly Will-changing process.
4. Because the transfer process will happen without the interference of any outside entity (be it a Government, State or local authority) and at no loss to any value.

🔽 Who confirms I am dead?

The Executor(s), via authenticated documents.

🔽 How do you authenticate the Executors and/or the Death Certificates?

We demand uploading authentic documents (driver licenses, death certificates, etc.). If in doubt, we demand notarized documents.

🔽 Should I erase my data, once I upload it to your system?

No. We highly recommend you keep a copy of your data in another backup setup, in case of a Force Majeure to the Google server, or if you lose your password and are unable to retrieve the account's access (via the encryption file that gets downloaded to your computer when you first set up your account).

🔽 Can anyone—including your company—access my data?

No. Your information is encrypted and protected by a zero-knowledge system, meaning only you can access and manage your data while your account is active. We do not have visibility into your private information.

🔽 How is my data secured?

Your data is encrypted on your device before it leaves your device with a password key you set "other than your account password" and is stored and remains encrypted at all times. It is securely stored on trusted infrastructure in the United States, ensuring both privacy and reliability.

🔽 What prevents someone from accessing my data early?

Access is controlled by a multi-step verification process. Your information is only released after all defined conditions are met, including verification checks and any waiting periods you have set. This prevents unauthorized or premature access.

🔽 Who receives my information?

Only the beneficiaries you choose. You can assign, update, or remove beneficiaries at any time, giving you full control over who has access.

🔽 What happens when the release process begins?

A structured process is followed:

1- A trigger is detected
2- Verification steps are initiated
3- Assigned individuals may be contacted
4- A waiting period ensures accuracy
5- Information is securely delivered to your selected recipients

🔽 What happens after the free trial?

After your 30-day free trial ends, your selected subscription plan will begin automatically unless you cancel beforehand. You will not be charged during the trial period.

🔽 Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes. You can cancel at any time. There are no long-term commitments.

🔽 What happens to my data if I cancel?

You remain in control of your data. Depending on your account status, you will have the option to export or remove your information. We recommend exporting your data before cancellation if you wish to keep a copy.
